West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has congratulated the agitating farmers on their success in the movement to repeal the controversial agricultural law in India. He congratulated her in a tweet on Friday.

Addressing the farmers, Mamata said, “You have been protesting against the inhuman behavior of the BJP and have not retreated. It is therefore your absolute success. I am deeply saddened by the loss of loved ones. ‘

The Trinamool Congress has reacted immediately to the repeal of the Agriculture Act. Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata on Friday, party spokesperson Shukhendu Shekhar Roy said the prime minister should apologize for not only withdrawing the agriculture bill but also for keeping the farmers in extreme panic for more than a year.

In Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, a number of farmers were killed when a vehicle driven by the son of a BJP Union Minister opened fire on them. The Prime Minister should also apologize for this.

On the other hand, Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Bandyopadhyay also congratulated the farmers in response to the repeal of the Agriculture Act. In a democracy, he says, the power of opposition has been proven.

Farmers from different parts of West Bengal have celebrated this historic victory of the farmers of Punjab. Members of various business organizations marched in Kolkata on Friday on behalf of an organization supporting the movement.

Amrik Singh, secretary of the Bengal Road Transport Association, a business organization, said political parties should work to get promises from those in power to buy crops from farmers at the minimum support price.
