The use of robots is increasing in various organizations including factories. In the United States, robot dependence on automation has increased by 36 percent. North American companies have added a record number of robots in the first nine months of this year. The reason for this reliance on robots is to speed up the work with the addition of parts in different factories and to meet the shortage of workers. Reuters News.
In the first nine months of this year, North American factories and other industrial owners placed 29,000 robot orders, up 36 percent from the same period last year, according to the Association for Advancing Automation. Its value is more than 146 million US dollars. Prior to the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, the highest number of robot orders was seen in 2016. This time the demand for the first 9 months has exceeded the demand of 2016.
Demand for this specialty has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals. In this situation, the companies are now investing more than before. In addition, the organizations that lost workers during the Corona epidemic have not yet been able to get everyone back. They are starting to see robots as an alternative to meet the labor shortage.
The industry group is also known as the Association for Advancing Automation. Its president, Jeff Bernstein, said: “Companies are not getting the staff they need. That’s why they’re rushing toward automation. ”
According to Ethri, robots are now pushing other branches of the economy. For so long, most people in the auto industry have bought industrial robots. Last year, however, the combined purchase of robots by other companies surpassed the automotive sector. This trend has continued this year as well.
In the first nine months of the year, orders for auto-related robots increased by 20 percent. At this time 12 thousand 544 units of robots have been sold. On the other hand, robot sales of companies outside the car industry have increased by 53 percent.
Bernstein said the use of robots in the automotive industry is gaining momentum. Its use in other fields, especially in various metallurgical and food processing industries, is increasing rapidly.
John Newman’s company is one of the companies that is increasing the use of robots. A Texas-based company called Athena Manufacturing manufactures metallurgical materials. Now seven robots are working in the company. Last year they had three robots. They bought the first robot in 2016. Newman said the use of robots has increased demand for Athena. Demand from semiconductor equipment manufacturers has risen by up to 50 percent.
Newman added that his company has been able to work 24 hours a day since the robot was launched. Although the total number of employees in the company is 250, they have to work hard. The workers were especially reluctant to take on the responsibilities of unpopular night shifts. We have to rely on robots to fill this gap.
