At least 21 people have been killed in a traffic jam caused by heavy snowfall in Pakistan. Thousands of tourists were on their way to see the snowfall when the accident happened. At least six tourists were killed when their vehicle overturned in extreme cold, police said. However, they could not confirm whether the others died of severe respiratory problems due to freezing of the vehicle.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that members of the armed forces have been deployed to the area for rescue operations on the snow-covered road.
Many such videos have spread on social media. As seen in the video, another car is stuck with the bumper of one car. Snow piles of at least one meter (three feet) high have accumulated on the roofs of the vehicles.
Numerous tourists are stuck on the road due to snowfall. One of them, Usman Abbasi, said people were facing dire situations.

In a tweet, he said the local administration was struggling to cope with the situation as tourists flocked there without checking the unpredictable snowfall and weather forecast. He further said that an inquiry committee has been directed into the incident. Strict laws will be enacted to prevent such tragedies.
