Six soldiers were killed in gunfire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border

Armenian and Azerbaijani troops were once again involved in the conflict. At least eight Azerbaijani soldiers were killed and more than 10 others were injured in clashes at the border on Tuesday. Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Armenian authorities say one of their soldiers was killed and 13 wounded in the clashes. Twenty-four Armenian soldiers are still missing in Tuesday’s clashes.

According to Qatar-based Al Jazeera, the Armenian and Azerbaijani governments have blamed each other for the new clashes. This is the first major clash in the Nagorno-Karabakh region after six weeks of bloody fighting between the two armies last year. More than six and a half thousand people were killed in that war last year.

Tuesday’s casualties are expected to escalate into regional tensions between the two countries. The clashes have stalled after talks between Russian Defense Minister Sergei Soygu and Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities.

Armenian defense minister says Azerbaijani troops have fired on Armenians. The Azerbaijani government, on the other hand, has accused Armenia of widespread provocation. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the volatile border situation.
