Western tensions with Russia are rising. Russia recently destroyed an artificial satellite in a missile test. Various countries including the United States are criticizing this. In order to stay ahead of the arms race with the United States, Moscow has been talking about arms development in recent years.
Hypersonic missiles can travel at up to five times the speed of sound and change tactics in the middle, making them harder to monitor and intercept than conventional missiles.
Russia’s military says a Zircon missile was fired from an Admiral Gorskov warship, hitting a Russian target in the Arctic Ocean. The country’s defense ministry says the missile was able to hit a target directly.
In recent years, Moscow has conducted several tests on Zircon missiles. Earlier, the missile was tested from a submarine.
In his 2016 address to the nation, Putin spoke of a number of hypersonic weapons, including zircon. The range of these weapons, he said, is thousands of kilometers, capable of hitting any target at sea or on land.
